Buy New Bible

Bible’s are pretty durable, but if you are looking for a newer version, or if you are ready to buy a new Bible for the first time, then there are a few things to take into consideration.

All English translations are really good despite some of the extreme views you may hear about only using the King James Version for example. Translators have always done a good job of transferring the meaning and accuracy of the original texts. There are a small amount of considerations in regard to the differences in translation but they really are not enough to get too worried over when you need to buy a new Bible.

So don’t worry too much about the specific translation whether NIV, NASB, ESV, KJV, NKJV, NLT. Perhaps find out what version your church uses so that it’s easier for you to follow the preaching and small group Bible studies. Steer clear of versions promoted by Mormon’s and Jehovah Witnesses as they are not properly translated.

Other than choosing a version, you need to consider practical decisions in choosing a Bible. Ask these questions and then go to a Christian book store and look through the options.

  • What size text can I read?
  • Will I just carry this Bible to church or will it need to travel regularly in luggage or a handbag?
  • Do I need a case or durable cover?
  • Do I want maps, concordance or cross-reference features?
  • Do I need a Study Bible?
  • Do I need a compact version?
  • What can I afford? (Some Bibles can be expensive)
