The teams that worked on this translation had always desired to create a NLT Study Bible. The hope was to give richer historicity and cultural background to the scriptures and bring greater meaning to readers. The NLT Study Bible took 10 years to complete and was finally released in stores in September of 2008. Approximately 70 individuals helped to create this study tool with more than 40 scholars and additional staff.
At the time of conception it seemed that 3 types of Study Bibles existed. Some of these study tools zoned in on data and research, some on doctrine and others on devotions.
